According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Feyenoord midfielder Tonny Vilhena.
What’s the story?
Tottenham did not spend a penny during the summer transfer window, but the London club could be active at the start of 2019.
Midfield is a priority position for Spurs when considering that Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have both been strongly linked with moves away from the club.
According to Calciomercato, the Premier League club want to battle Roma for the signature of Vilhena, who is a 15-time Netherlands international.
The 23-year-old will see his contract with Feyenoord expire at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign, and could therefore be available for a relatively cheap price.
Should Tottenham move for Vilhena?
As mentioned above, the fact that Vilhena’s contract expires at the end of next season means that he could be available for a very reasonable price.
Tottenham simply cannot afford to spend £60m on one player during a transfer window, but Vilhena fits the brief in terms of quality and affordability.
The versatile midfielder has scored three times and registered two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions this season, whilst he has made over 230 appearances for Feyenoord since breaking into the first team.

Vilhena is not the type of player that is going to come in and change Tottenham from a very good team to a challenger for the Premier League title.
However, the Dutchman would be a very smart signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side when considering his age and current ability.
