[ad_pod ]The “fat lad from Sheffield†has done it again; all hail King Billy Sharp.Sharp may not be your archetypal modern forward who’s ripped to the teeth, hence the podgy nickname he’s proudly inherited, but he’s attained something very few will ever achieve: legend status.Through years of servitude and countless goals (103 in 243 games to be precise), the hometown hero has built up unwavering support and admiration from Blades fans over the years (you need only look at the comments section on a single Twitter post to realise that). But for some, naturally outside the realm of South Yorkshire, this wasn’t convincing enough…“They’re still bigging up Billy Sharp, and as much as I love Billy Sharp; great record, absolute legend, local boy came good, third spell at the club, but he is League One.“He’s not good enough for the Premier League and with the greatest of respect, it’s all sentimental bull that Sheffield United are hoping will take them through to 17thÂin the Premier League.â€
This was the somewhat scathing assessment of Sharp’s chances at success from talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham who unleashed a stream of misery and pessimism before a ball was even kicked on the opening weekend of the season. Whoopsie daisy, Adrian. Whoopsie daisy, indeed.
Of course, Sharp popped up with a late equaliser in the Blades’ 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the weekend, and he’s taken to Twitter to react to the special moment…
Are you watching Durham?
