Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed he has made an approach to sign free agent England midfielder Joe Cole.
Cole, 28, is available on a free transfer this summer following his release from Chelsea.
The former West Ham United midfielder was unable to agree terms on a new contract at Stamford Bridge and his availability on a free transfer has sparked a scramble among Premier League clubs.
Spurs were rumoured to be at the head of the queue for Cole – who is reportedly keen to stay in London – and Redknapp has now revealed that he has been in touch with the player's agent.
Cole is currently away in South Africa on World Cup duty with England.
"We've declared our interest in Joe to his agent, but that is as far as it has gone," Redknapp told The Sun.
"We are told Joe doesn't want to talk to anyone about any move until after the World Cup is over."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
