Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson has questioned whether Everton have improved under the management of Marco Silva.
The Toffees invested heavily during the summer transfer window following a disappointing 2017-18 season, which saw them lose 15 of their 38 Premier League games.
Everton did end last season in eighth, but were 26 points off fourth spot.
The Merseyside outfit currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, having won six, drawn six and lost four of their 16 fixtures during the 2018-19 campaign.
Everton have earned plaudits for their performances this season, but have actually only won one of their last five in the Premier League.
And it does not get any easier for Silva’s team as they travel to the champions Manchester City this weekend.
Merson has admitted that he is unsure whether Everton have improved this season, with the team failing to beat Newcastle United and Watford at home in their last two games.
Merson wrote on Sky Sports:
“A lot of people are saying Everton have improved, but I’m not sure. The first half against Liverpool they did look a different team, yes, and they were unlucky not to be ahead.
“Then they play Newcastle and Watford at home and fail to win either. That’s the same old Everton we know. When they’re expected to win, I’m not sure about them.”
Everton have a difficult end to 2018 as they travel to Man City, Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion, in addition to welcoming Tottenham Hotspur to Goodison Park.
