Shearer Premier League's top scorerKane's chase halted by Bayern moveLineker 'choking' over best player debateWHAT HAPPENED?
Former England internationals Lineker and Shearer got into a debate about who ruled the roost when it came to being top dog: Kane or Shearer. The Bayern Munich striker, who joined from Tottenham last summer, has scored 213 Premier League goals, 47 shy of Shearer's total. The 30-year-old has a superior goals-to-game ratio at 0.66 versus Shearer's 0.59, but his 47 assists were pipped by the Newcastle United legend's 64. So, who came out on top?

On the Rest is Football podcast, the exchange began with Lineker saying: “Jonathan Bennett – 'A question for Alan. I had a disagreement with my 26-year-old son over who was better, Shearer or Kane. He argued that Kane was both a better all-round player and had a better goals-per-game ratio’.
"'I argued that Shearer was a better goalscorer and played against better defenders who could kick you from pillar to post. Can Alan put modesty aside’… F***ing no chance! ‘And help me argue the case for Shearer please?'”
Shearer said while laughing: “Jonathan, make sure your son listens to you because you’re absolutely spot on,” and after a brief pause added in a deadpan tone: “I mean Kane’s good isn’t he, but come on.”
Lineker and Micah Richards howled in laughter, with the former saying, "I'm choking," before adding: “I think his son’s showing good signs of superior football knowledge than his father. I think Kane wins on all fronts really.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Had Kane stayed at Spurs, it is likely the Three Lions skipper would have broken Shearer's record. However, he is banging in the goals in the Bundesliga as he searches silverware for the first time in his career. When Kane retires from football, the debate over who was better can properly be fleshed out.
